Description:   SQL Database Administrator

Responsibility for the integrity of the database server performance and is held responsible for developing and following proper maintenance plans to keep data base running in optimal state.

Provides guidance to lower level database administrator in support of this function.

Perform and promote interfacing with Users, Consultants, Technical Teams, and vendors to determine most appropriate hardware and software installations.

Designs, specifies, and documents database schema configurations according to Customer needs and Engineering guidelines.

Install and customize Database platforms so personal computers can retrieve information from and submit data to midrange servers.

Analyzes work load, including system and utilization trends to ensure adequate performance.

Develops and monitors security procedures to safeguard system from physical harm and viruses, authorized users, and damage to data.

Implements database designs, data access, table maintenance, replication and other database related issues.



Requirements:   Degree in Computer Science or other related technical field: and/or a minimum of equivalent experience of 3-5 years experience working as a Database Administrator.
Experienced in Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle database administration or database management systems design and support.
Proven experience working with large databases and database performance tuning.
Knowledge of scripting languages and tools (shell scripts).
Experience with open-source databases (e.g. MySQL) and iseries DB2 is a plus.
Knowledge of database concepts such as schema design, triggers, transaction logs, stored procedures, and backups.
Knowledge of Windows and UNIX operating systems.
Expected to be on call 24/7 and maintain confidentiality.
